The Chianti Area of Italy is a hilly Tuscan paradise: a vast area combining excellent climatic features with a rich variety of products, flavours and history. The landscape, with its gently rolling hills, is perfect with any type of open-air activity: trekking, horse riding, mountain biking.
The Chianti Region, with its centuries-old tradition of wine and olive cultivation provides valuable products which are highly esteemed throughout the world: wine-lovers should not miss the chance to go on a wine tasting and gastronomic tour of the Classic Chianti area or the rich areas of Montepulciano and Montalcino, where the highly regarded wines of Brunello and Vino Nobile are produced.
A tour of Tuscany would of course include the most important cities, Florence, Siena and Pisa, but not to be missed is the view from a distance, along the valley, of San Gimignano with its unmistakable thirteen medieval towers rising above the town. This form of architecture is seen all along the Chianti valley in the medieval cities of Castellina, Gaiole, Radda, Greve and Castelnuovo Berardegna which are perfect places to lose yourself in the past. The little alleyways in the towns, the art and handicraft activities and the whole local economy is still seeped in the past, with characteristic church parishes and stone farmhouses.
Not to be missed is the Abbey of San Galgano, one of the most characteristic examples of Cistercian Gothic Architecture in Italy, famous for the ancient sword-in-the-rock legend, in one of the most beautiful places in the Chianti Region, surrounded by a protected nature parks, tennis courts and golf courses are easily reachable in the Chianti area and guarantee splendid views as well as the chance of playing both indoors and outdoors.
For those wanting relaxing thermal baths, we would recommend the Terme di Petriole which can be accessed both freely or through proper thermal bath spas.
